“Gaza Remains the Story” is a selection of pieces from the large, multi-themed exhibit curated by the Palestinian Museum in Birzeit, Palestine in 2024. In response to the genocide, the museum digitized the exhibit and offered it to the world upon request. In considering the Sacramento Poetry Center space, we have added poetry.

In the face of the ongoing apartheid, brutal occupation, and genocide, the Palestinian story deserves justice. The exhibit attempts to lift up this story by sharing the human face of Palestine, challenging dehumanizing narratives. Our hope is for viewers and readers to experience Palestinians as whole human beings with a rich culture and history.

This curation joins an international network of some 250 organizations that have hosted exhibits in almost 50 countries.

With special thanks to the Palestinian Museum, Birzeit, Palestine & The Museum of the Palestinian People, Washington, D.C.

Free presentation follows workshop @ 3pm (open to public)
Palestinian Embroidery encompasses at least a dozen different stiches.  In this course you will learn the most widely recognized stitch, a cross-stitch.    Cross-stitch is practiced in many parts of the world, with every culture bringing its own techniques, patterns, and traditions to the craft. In this beginner-friendly workshop, discover how Palestinians use cross-stitch on their dresses to share stories of identity, community, and heritage.

This hands-on workshop follows the public presentation that introduces the rich history of Palestine and the people behind this beautiful craft.  You will learn how different regions of Palestine developed their own distinct motifs, colors, and styles, offering a unique way to experience Palestinian culture.

Workshop participants will be guided step-by-step through foundational stitches and create their own small, embroidered piece to take home. No prior sewing or embroidery experience is needed, just curiosity and creativity.
